We’re featuring Sara Hillery, the principal of Sara Hillery Interior Design, on the blog today. We’re thrilled to have a design influencer of her caliber willing to share her favorite products we introduced in April. But before we get to her list of picks, let’s learn a bit more about her fabulous firm based in Richmond, Virginia. We’re illustrating the story with several projects the company has realized that just happen to include our products.
Sara Hillery Interior Design
Staying true to the motto “Southern Style. Modern Sophistication,” Sara and her team provide an extensive range of interior design services—from conception and renderings to project management and execution—always with a keen eye on the finishing details. The firm specializes in making each client’s home unique through perfectly scaled and balanced furnishings and seamlessly incorporated art.
The talented professionals always keep in mind how to best realize each client’s vision. This and the timeless appeal they achieve gives them their momentum. Sara’s approach involves incorporating the fine and rare with the utilitarian and available, creating beautiful and functional spaces. With a focus on honoring each client’s personal history, the firm excels at updating and transforming each client’s interior spaces, both architecturally and decoratively.
The team is particularly adept at making previously acquired and antique pieces more relevant and practical within each setting. While Sara draws inspiration from her travels to Europe, India, and Japan, her style invariably reflects her Southern heritage and familial roots in Virginia, Texas, and New Orleans. When she graduated from the University of Virginia in 2004, Sara turned her focus to architecture and interiors. This was a natural progression as she finished her education, receiving her MFA in Interior Environments, along with her ASID certification at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2007.
After beginning her career working for a design group in Richmond, Sara relocated to Houston where she became a project designer at Lucas Eilers Design Associates. While at Lucas Eilers, Sara’s projects received numerous local awards and accolades, including Best in Show, Best Vacation Home, and Best Residential Green Design. Many projects were featured in an array of publications. In 2011 Sara opened Sara Hillery Interior Design. As a proud working mother of three, Sara excels at making design family-friendly while still remaining creative, elegant, and timeless. The firm has completed projects in Louisiana, New York, Texas, and Virginia.

Without further ado, we present Sara’s top picks of our new spring products:
“I was immediately drawn to this lantern because of its fun floral features,” Sara says of our Tulipano Lantern. “I love striking light fixtures, and the all-white gesso finish with a touch of warm gold on the palette of this piece checks all my boxes without overpowering a space. I’m also drawn to the simple hardware details that perfectly anchor the whimsy of the flower.”
“I love the juxtaposition of the scale of this chandelier and its delicate form,” she notes about the Carew Large Chandelier. “I see this in a grand entry to a home or a fabulous great room.”
About our Cyrilly Drinks Table, Sara says, “I am always on the hunt for good drinks tables: there is so much of the same old thing out there right now, and the curly-q detail on this piece caught my attention right away!”
“I love anything alabaster!” declares Sara about our Alabastro Table Lamp. “I’m drawn to this elegant tapered block design that is so delicate even though it’s made of stone.”
“This sconce is so unique!” she says of the Baron Wall Sconce. “I’m drawn to the strong geometric lines that are softened by the dimensionality of the smoky quartz. It has a modern-meets-Art-Deco vibe that I can’t get enough of.
”It’s so rewarding to see our products through the eyes of our industry’s biggest talents. We appreciate the fact that Sara was willing to give us a glimpse into her choices we’ve released this spring!
