Sales Reps Share Top Product Picks

New Currey & Company introductions for Spring 2020.

Beyond our immediate team here at Currey & Company, few other individuals engage with our products more than our sales reps. We’re fortunate to have so many dedicated and talented people crisscrossing the country to share our new releases with showrooms and boutiques. We thought it would be fun to, ahem, turn the tables a bit, and have a number of them share their top product picks that debuted this spring. We’re going bicoastal this time around by presenting the favorite new finds of San Francisco-based Andrea Combet and Charleston-based Margarethe Martin.

Sales Rep Andrea Combet

Andrea Combet, one of the West Coast sales reps for Currey & Company.

By way of an introduction, here’s a peek at what Andrea has been up to for the past decade since she founded Art & Function, a home furnishings sales agency serving retailers and the interior design trade, in 2009. The agency represents Currey & Company in the West Coast region, which includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Reno, and Hawaii. Along with employing a team of sales representatives, she serves as the company’s administrative director, manages the regional business that comes their way, and works directly with key accounts such as Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma. Andrea and her husband, the artist Gilles Combet, have one daughter, Yolanda, and a menagerie of pets.

Andrea is also a member of the Garden Conservancy and a volunteer garden coordinator of the In Chan Kaajal Community Garden in San Francisco’s Mission district. She and the garden won two awards in 2019:  The Greening the City Award (Livable Cities) and the Golden Gate Award (San Francisco Beautiful). Philanthropically, since 2011 Andrea has sponsored program enrollment for ten women through Women for Women International, a non-profit organization that provides practical and moral support to women survivors of war by enabling them to pursue a trade. She is also interested in book arts and attained a Core Certification in Bookbinding from the San Francisco Center for the Book.

Andrea Combet Top Product Picks

“Each of the West Coast regions has its own character, but all our Pacific States customers love natural elements and artisanal techniques,” Andrea notes. “Currey’s newest offerings are right on target for our market!”

The Nefertiti Pendant by Currey & Company.

About our Nefertiti Pendant, she says, “This elegant pendant, inspired by an earring, is distinguished by its thick glass bowl illuminated by an LED downlight. The crackled glass refracts light in such an interesting way! I imagine this in a sophisticated San Francisco apartment.”

Loro Table Lamp by Currey & Company, a favorite of sales rep Andrea Combet

“The Loro Table Lamp is made of stamped terracotta with a moss green and gold distressed finish,” she points out. “The 1970s inspiration and subtle patina are perfect for a Northwest bungalow.”

Silang Drinks Table by Currey & Company

Tapping our Silang Drinks Table, she says, “Natural rattan is hand-cut and arranged in a geometric pattern on the top of this petite table. The surface is protected by an inset glass top. The internal frame of the table is wrought iron, so this little gem is strong as well as beautiful. A pair of these would be wonderful in a modern Hawaiian interior.”

Visby Bench in Pepper finish by Currey & Company, a favorite of sales rep Andrea Combet

“What a great idea the Visby Bench is!” she proclaims. “The upholstered seat of the bench reverses to a cerused solid oak table top. With its linear brushed-brass accent, this reminds me of a Scandinavian Modern design. Visby is also offered as a square ottoman/table, and in a black finish. This versatile piece would add flair to a mid-century Los Angeles bedroom.”

Sunken Boat Vases: Swirl, Double Gourd, and Wings by Currey & Company

“The Swirl, Double Gourd, and Wings Sunken Boat vases are part of Currey & Company’s exciting new range of very special artisanal accessories,” Andrea says. “These vases are formed from black terracotta glazed in mossy green to look like artifacts rescued from a shipwreck. The makers are a guild of female ceramicists based at the border of Burma and Thailand. The group of three vessels would be appreciated in a coastal living room in Laguna.”

Ellaria Mirror by Currey & Company

About our Ellaria Mirror, she says, “This large-scale arched mirror has great texture and depth. The frame is made of natural bone arranged in a crosshatch pattern containing hand-carved flowers and studded with brass. This would be a showstopper over a wooden console in the entry of a grand Alaskan lodge.”

Sales Rep Margarethe Martin

Charleston-based Margarethe Martin, a home furnishings sales rep in the Southeastern US, has been selling Currey & Company products since early 1989. She tells us that from the very beginning, she just knew she was going to love offering our wares. Her early days go back to when our name was Garden Source and most of the products we sold were garden-related. “The line has changed so much over the years,” she notes. “We added lighting and then furniture to the mix; then upholstery and accessories—almost everything for an interior from floor to ceiling.”

Currey TV asked Margarethe how loyalty plays into the Currey brand and she answered, “Loyalty has been big from the very beginning—it extends from the people who make the products to everyone involved. It’s basically a big family—it was then and it is today.” Margarethe, who grew up in Ulm, Germany, and her husband Tom Martin enjoy boating and relaxing at their lake house when they aren’t hard at work traveling and managing their own successful firm. Margarethe also loves to entertain and to spend time with their children and four grandchildren.

Margarethe Martin Top Product Picks

Margarethe is particularly excited about all of our new accessories: she notes that the offerings are simply stunning and unique. You can read more about many of them in this post featuring the handicrafts behind them.

Hibiscus collection by Currey & Company

Margarethe, who is drawn to the Hibiscus collection, says it’s because it is so colorful and happy: “It reminds me of the classic retro look from the 70’s and adds a touch of tropical paradise to any home.”

Samoa Chandelier by Currey & Company is a favorite of sales rep Margarethe Martin

About the Samoa collection, she says, “I love the Gesso and rope combination, which would bring a fresh look to any room.”

Denison Lantern by Currey & Company

Margarethe has long been a fan of our Denison lanterns: “This is a timeless, contemporary version of my favorite lantern collection. I just love the new version wrapped in natural rattan.”

Blossom Sconce by Currey & Company

As anyone living in the deep south would proclaim about our Blossom sconces, “You’ve got to love the magnolias! So delicate and pretty, they will automatically add southern charm to a space.”

Ionian table lamp by Currey & Company is a favorite of sales rep Margarethe Martin

We often feel the same quandary over our table lamps as Margarethe: “Wow…too many to pick a favorite! I especially love the Ionian Table Lamp in ocean blue hand-carved glass. It’s made by incredible artisans so each one will be a unique piece of art. I also really like all of the new black and white lamps, each so different and classic.”

Morombe Credenza by Currey & Company
The Morombe Credenza in our new cerused white.

Among our new furniture offerings, Margarethe is drawn to our new cerused white finish on the Morombe collection: “What a great addition! The Sayan table collection in oak is also terrific. Not only is it offered in two finishes, we finally have a dining table to sell!”

Just as our sales reps are such an important part of our community, Flower Magazine recognized how integrated our founders Robert and Suzy Currey have become in Sparta, Georgia, where they own Sparta Gardens and the historic Greek Revival house that sits like a gem at the center of it all. We loved seeing them and the property about which they are so passionate featured in one of our favorite magazines!

Such a wonderful sentiment, Jean-Charles! By the way, I’m putting the Lost Wax process in the mix soon. I’ll be in touch if I have questions. I have all of that terrific text you created about it a few months ago. I hope you are staying safe and sane!
