Furnishing the Home Office

The Aster Desk and Chelsea Mist Chair, perfect for the home office.

As we looked toward summer in the early spring, we were filled with hope that by the fall we’d be breathing a bit easier but it seems we’re still not out of the woods. While some of us are returning to workplaces, others are realizing the home office is going to be our workplace for a while longer, if not for the duration. We have released a number of new products this spring and summer that are perfect for furnishing the home office. They also happen to be pretty enough to hold their own in a well-appointed room.

New Offerings for Furnishing the Home Office

Among our spring and summer 2021 releases are two new writing desks, a beautiful desk chair with historical undertones, and a desk lamp.

The Currey & Company Chelsea Desk is perfect for furnishing the home office.

Made of mahogany in a Snow White finish, the Chelsea Desk was inspired by an antique from the Winterthur Museum. The white desk has one drawer on which the brass pull is a warm accent in a brass finish. We also offer the Chelsea as a chest and a side chair (below), all part of The Winterthur Collection.

Made of mahogany in a snow-white finish, the Chelsea Mist Chair was inspired by an antique from the Winterthur Museum. The white chair with beautiful gothic arches on its back has an upholstered seat in a pale blue fabric. This design with its historical references is also in The Winterthur Collection.

The Aster Desk by Currey & Company is a shoe-in for furnishing the home office.

Made of mahogany and oak in a mix of off-white and fog finishes, the Aster Desk was inspired by an antique from the Winterthur Museum. The gray and white desk has three drawers on which the brass pulls are warm accents in a brass finish. We also offer the Aster as a nightstand, both pieces part of our Winterthur Collection.

Whistledown table lamp by Currey & Company

Tom Caldwell calls the Whistledown Table Lamp a traditional desk lamp. Narrow and luminous in aluminum with a brass finish, the striated surface of the gold table lamp brings its profile ample sophistication. The stacked base that echoes the shape of the rectangular shade is a design detail of note, as the narrowness of the shade allows it to be placed closer to a wall, which is important for keeping the home office desk surfaces free.

Tried-and-True Home Office Furniture and Desk Lamps

The Currey & Company Evie Shagreen Desk is an excellent choice for furnishing the home office.

The Evie Shagreen Desk is made of mahogany in a dark walnut finish. The wood-framed panels and drawers covered in ivory faux shagreen are accented with brass door pulls. This ivory desk was inspired by vintage shagreen furniture from the 1920s. We have a number of offerings in this family of furnishings, any number of them excellent choices for furnishing the home office.

The Kallista Writing Desk is also a fantastic choice for furnishing the home office.

The Kallista Writing Desk has a dark sapphire blue finish that enlivens the sycamore veneers on its top and sides. The wood grains bring the navy blue desk a hint of distressing that contrasts the sleek lines of the door pulls in an antique brass finish and the glossy caviar black finish on the desk’s legs. As you can see in this vignette, there are a number of other Kallista products that would be perfect for furnishing the home office, including a screen to mask storage areas, a mirror for adjusting makeup before the next zoom call, and a cabinet and chest for additional storage.

The Verona Chanterelle Desk is a top pick for furnishing the home office.

Made of mahogany in a woodland-inspired chanterelle finish, the Verona Chanterelle Desk is warmly handsome with its metal detailing in a champagne finish. The stretchers on this brown desk bring it its flair. There are a number of pieces in the Verona family of furnishings in both black and brown finishes.

The Thayer Desk Lamp by Currey & Company.

A contemporary goose-neck profile makes the Thayer Desk Lamp a versatile brass lamp in terms of style. The vintage brass finish combined with the black granite base with its beveled edge are sophisticated design notes that make this an exceptional choice for furnishing the home office.

The Hoxton Gold Table Lamp by Currey & Company.

A perfect little desk lamp, our Hoxton Gold Table Lamp has a USB port in its base. Made of metal in a light antique brass finish, the gold lamp is an intermingling of geometric shapes that exhibit style. The rectangular shade completes the brass composition.

The Reeves Desk Lamp by Currey & Company.

The Reeves Desk Lamp has a scissor-arm mechanism inspired by lighting that hung from the ceilings in factories, notes Barry Goralnick, the lamp’s designer. The form is beautifully functional, as it can be extended and retracted, and the stem that holds the scissor mechanism moves up and down. The silver desk lamp with its sculptural base is made of metal in a polished nickel finish, the perfect complement to other well-appointed pieces chosen for furnishing the home office.

The Adorn Small Table Lamp by Currey & Company.

Our Adorn Small Table Lamp has a thin metal frame in an antique brass finish that culminates with an unfinished pyramid shape in the matching finial. The clear optic crystal base is a luxurious touch and the black shantung shade with its gold lining brings this gold lamp added beauty. We also offer the Adorn in a larger size.
