We are nearing the unofficial start of summer with Memorial Day weekend upon us so what better time to share our take on summer style, which includes offerings that are nature-inspired and woven to enhance the charm of the lakeside or beach retreat. The furnishings mentioned here are new to our lineup in case you haven’t visited our site since we took our spring products live.

Furnishings with Summer Style

The Octopus Vases come in small, medium, and large. The decorative accessories are handmade of stoneware by women artisans living at the border of Burma and Thailand. The process they used to create these accessories is challenging and time-consuming. First the vase is thrown by one artisan; then another artist works by hand to apply the octopus to the profile of the cream vase before it is hand glazed and fired. The artful application and the dripping of the reactive blue glaze makes each piece a one-of-kind objet-d’art with a strong French Mediterranean feel.

The Calliope Wall Sconce with its bamboo leaf motif is the epitome of summer style.
The Calliope Wall Sconce with its bamboo leaf motif is the epitome of summer style.

When Clarence Mallari designed the Calliope Wall Sconce, he was inspired by leaves on the bamboo plant. Though the stem and fronds of this tan wall sconce read as if they are made of natural material, they are fashioned from wrought iron in a mix of coco cream and ivory finishes that are hand-applied by artisans. The placement of the clean-lined rectangular shade is a design detail of note—its thinness making this sconce ADA compliant.

Our Seychelles Wall Sconce, new this spring, was designed by Jamie Beckwith.
Our Seychelles Wall Sconce, new this spring, was designed by Jamie Beckwith.

Joining the Seychelles family of products are Jamie Beckwith’s Seychelles Wall Sconce, above, and Table Lamp, below, both inspired by an island-hopping vibe. The circular profile of the white sconce is made of wrought iron in a sugar white finish that is fitted with a wood panel in a sandstone finish. From this extends hand-cut sprays of raffia. The openings into which the natural material is inserted emits a warm glow when light wafts through them. This sconce is flexible, as it can be mounted with the raffia pointing in any direction.

For those who haven’t met Jamie, she is a leader in the realm of luxury interiors as a designer of an innovative offering of prestige wood surfacing treatments for both floor and vertical surfaces. Her collection for us embodies her mission to change the concept of how wood can be used in design, as her earliest chandeliers and wall sconces are adorned with her signature wood tiles. The Seychelles and St. Barts offerings, above and below, were inspired by the dream of travel during a time when the world stood still at the early onset of the pandemic!

The St. Barts Taupe Chandelier is made of wood beads in a mix of warm gray and dove gray hues that echo colors from nature. These hang from a triple-tier wrought iron frame in a sugar white finish. The natural abaca rope on which the beads are strung is knotted and snipped by hand to leave elemental tassels that will flutter when stirred by a lively breeze. The beaded chandelier is one of several ocean-inspired designs by Beckwith, including a pendant in this new colorway.

The Karnack Table Lamp has a quatrefoil shape that creates a challenge for those seamlessly wrapping it in abaca rope, but that didn’t stop the talented artisans who created it from doing just that. The body that serves as the structure for the rope is made of terracotta. A round rope-wrapped finial fastens the natural linen shade to this abaca rope lamp that was inspired by statement pieces among our accessories.

The Limay Accent Table fits seamlessly into the summer style category.
The Limay Accent Table fits seamlessly into the summer style category.

The wrought iron and wood frame of the Limay Accent Table is wrapped in natural abaca rope. The precision with which artisans cover the vertical and horizontal lines and the disk elements on the rope accent table is accomplished with a painstaking focus that is a hallmark of refined handicrafts. The Limay is topped with a clear piece of glass to keep the top free from stains. We also offer the Limay as a drinks table.

Water hyacinth and grass cloth make the Isola Chandelier a woven marvel.
Water hyacinth and grass cloth make the Isola Chandelier a woven marvel.

The natural material story continues with the Isola Chandelier with its wrought iron frame in a khaki finish and mix of natural water hyacinth and Grass Cloth fabric. Designed by Clarence Mallari, the smaller, taller oval that encircles the light has a rough luxe weave of the water hyacinth; while the wider, shorter oval has a tighter weave that juxtaposes the looser crosshatching on this tan chandelier. A design detail of note is that the seams match up when the outer shade transitions from straight to curved. We have also just introduced a pendant in this design.

The vine of heart-shaped leaves flowing around the mirrored glass of the Vinna Brass Round Mirror creates a playful display pulled straight from nature. The cast aluminum motifs in an antique brass finish have a subtle glow to them that makes this mirror a focal point on a wall. The vines are hand-shaped and the finish is hand applied on this decorative mirror. We also have just introduced this mirror in a rectangular version

The Tegal Fin Natural Chair is new this spring.
The Tegal Fin Natural Chair is new this spring.

The Tegal Finn Natural Chair is made of solid rattan using a very traditional rattan construction technique, though instead of thinner reeds, the ties on this rattan chair are made of leather. The chair, which will fast become a favorite in a variety of spaces including sunrooms and beachside living rooms, has a name inspired by a city in Central Java, an Indonesian country known for fine rattan craftsmanship. The natural material has a Sea Sand on Rattan finish. We also offer the Tegal as a bench.
