The World is Our Oyster
When it comes to creating intriguing lighting, garden, and accessory designs, the world is often our oyster, as the leftovers from the habitats that once protected these bivalves create some of our most naturally organic furnishings. In celebration of spring, which sprung last weekend, we thought we’d share some of our favorite oyster shell décor items.
Oyster Shell Lighting
Among our oyster shell offerings in pendants and chandeliers, the Stillwater fixtures have remained two of our most popular for quite some time. A pair of our Stillwater Pendants above, and the Oval Chandelier, below, dangle strands of hand-selected oyster shells from wrought iron frames in a blacksmith finish. These versatile oyster shell pendants and chandelier illustrate the artistry with which our design team approaches natural, nautical materials.
With the Villamare Table Lamp, our artisans stacked the oyster shells that they applied by hand to the pedestal. They create a textural column rising from a satin black wood base. This is one of our painstakingly hand-applied artisanal pieces. The oyster shell table lamp is topped with an oatmeal linen shade.
Another standout in our Oyster Shell furnishings is the Patrova Table Lamp because it is surprisingly tailored given the material from which it is fashioned. Elegantly composed oyster shells have been pearlized, surrounded by a classically rendered black frame, set upon a black optic crystal base, and topped with a black shantung shade. The interplay of pale and dark that is a hallmark of the shells themselves makes this nautical table lamp stylish.
Oyster Shell Decorative Mirrors
The Margate Mirror shown above in one of our showroom vignettes has a hand-applied oyster-shell panel on the interior of its scalloped frame, the shells carefully placed there by artisans. These are surrounded on both sides by wrought iron trim in a contemporary gold leaf finish. The shell mirror can be hung horizontally or vertically, and it is one of our designs that proves even materials that are thought of as mundane can exhibit grace and charm when combined with the right finishes. A more casual, though no less interesting, decorative mirror is the Oyster Shell Mirror.
Our Very Popular Bird Baths
Our lovely Oyster Shell Bird Baths, which come in small, medium, and large sizes, combine uncommon materials and a whimsical design to transform the humble oyster shell and unrefined concrete into a functioning outdoor art piece. All of our concrete bird baths in differing sizes are in a natural finish.
With warmer weather ahead, thoughts turn to fresh seafood, the seashore, and beachcombing. Whether you’re a fan of bivalves as a culinary dish or not, we’re betting you can see the beauty in our designs.
See Them in Person!
Those of you in our industry who are heading to Lightovation at Dallas Market, which opened yesterday and runs through Friday, can see a number of our shell offerings there. The friendly faces above are eagerly awaiting visitors, the one-of-a-kind objects only available through the showrooms during market events.
