Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Designer Showhouse
It seems every aspect of life is being impacted by the pandemic that is sweeping the world. This includes the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Designer Showhouse, which was slated to be open through March 22 but has been closed early due to precautions deemed prudent by the CDC. We thought we would share a few images of the bedroom designed by Loren Audrey Taylor and Carolyn Abrams Taylor of Loren Taylor Interior Design, which holds a number of our products including the Library Chandelier (above) and our Arttu Bowl (below).
We asked the mother/daughter duo to share their inspiration for the bedroom. “We envisioned the home’s fifth bedroom as a landing pad of sorts—a quiet retreat where homeowners and guests alike rest and recharge,” Loren explains. “In a large home, extra bedrooms are often re-purposed, perhaps as meditation spaces, art studios or just places to unwind.” The designers artfully blended traditional and contemporary elements throughout the room, mixing classic blue and white porcelain with modern black and white furnishings and hints of burnished brass.
Rather than appointing the space with a conventional bed, they opted for a statement sectional with a large chaise, ideal for conversing or napping. “A tailored drapery adds softness to the room,” Carolyn notes. “Paintings by renowned artists Thornton Dial and Marc Ross feature prominently; and we brought in drawings by Logan Haynes to add an intimate feel.”
Barry Goralnick’s Desktop Icons
Barry Goralnick, who has designed some of our savviest lighting and has new furniture debuting this spring, is conducting a series of interviews with creative icons for ASPIRE DESIGN AND HOME called “Desktop Icons.” Featured prominently in the images that appear with the interviews are our own desktop icons, our Reeves and Davy desk lamps, which Barry designed. In the shot above, from Barry’s latest interview, the desk of architect Scott Bromley is illuminated by the Davy, while in the photo below Barry is with David Korins of David Korins Design. Extending to its full width is our Reeves desk lamp nearby.
We asked Barry about the series and he told us: “I visit creative talents where they work and live to talk about what’s brought them to where they are in their careers. Photographer Maura Sullivan captures it all in her own iconic black-and-white style and shoots on film using only natural light.” In the image below, actor John Lithgow is photographed with our Reeves desk lamp at the Golden Theater.
Sweeping Change for High Point Market
We are living through unprecedented times at the moment, a sweeping change that includes the postponing of High Point Market. The producers of the event have been closely monitoring the rapidly-evolving Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, and in the interest of the health and safety of those in our industry, Spring Market, scheduled for April 25-29, has been postponed until a later date in early June, should conditions improve.
“The decision was difficult, as any change in date could have tremendous economic repercussions on our industry and community, as well as the countless small businesses whose livelihoods rely on High Point Market, but underscores our shared concern and well-being of the citizens in our community and our industry partners,” commented Dudley Moore, Jr., chairman of the High Point Market Authority’s board of directors and president of Otto & Moore.
New Product Releases
In spite of the delay in debuting our new products in person, we’ve been hard at work designing and engineering our new releases. Here are a few of our favorites that you can look forward to seeing when we are all able to convene in person. Until then, we will have them all on our website soon so be sure to stop by and tick the Filter Selection “New Introduction” in the left sidebar on curreyandcompany.com to see all of our latest designs.
The Currey and Company Premivère Chandelier is one of our newest releases.
The Zoe Cabinet, designed by Barry Goralnick, is new to his collection and our first collaboration with the architect resulting in furniture designs.
Our Samoa Two-Tiered Chandelier is a recent addition to our line-up.
We’re Here for You!
During this time of global uncertainty amidst the Coronavirus crisis, we are writing to let you know that Currey & Company is here to support you. Our offices and warehouse are open, and we continue to receive and ship products, and field customer service calls. If there is a change in that status, we will let you know immediately. We are taking all precautions in terms of the safety of our workforce by dramatically minimizing in-person work and maintaining strict hygiene and distancing procedures. These efforts included a two-day shutdown to fully clean and sanitize our facility at the start of this week. Though we remain open, we know that this event is going to cause significant disruption to your business. Our entire Currey team is prepared to help you in any way that we can.
We are currently more than 90% in stock and able to ship product quickly. But because we source from a diverse collection of countries, our supply chain has the potential to become less predictable over the coming weeks depending how events unfold domestically and internationally. Our website is current with all of our existing products and their stock status, again exceeding 90%. Spring introductions will be online on an expedited cycle even with High Point Market moving to a later date, though some of those won’t be available for immediate purchase.
We are all working on creative ways to keep business happening, and we will remain in touch with digital options to see new and current products. In the meantime, please follow our @curreyco pages on the various social media channels to see new imagery and inspirations and to let us know how you are doing. If you need to reach us, our phones and emails remain open. You may contact our office directly at 678-533-1500 or email@example.com. Because most of our team is working remotely, you are more likely to get a voicemail message or an automated reply than you are used to. Be assured that both will be answered promptly.
Our year-round showrooms in Atlanta, Dallas and New York have closed until at least the end of this month, but our managers, account executives and sales reps are always available to help you at any time. As we all navigate the sweeping changes to our daily lives, we wish each of you a safe journey as you create new rhythms and habits for yourself and your family.
